Pony Rules "2025"

PONY Baseball rules limit daily pitch counts and mandate specific rest days based on age and the number of pitches thrown, with higher limits for older age groups, such as 120 pitches for the 19-22 age bracket. Key rules include that a pitcher must be on the pitching rubber while delivering the ball and a pitcher who is removed from the mound cannot pitch again in the same game. There are also specific rules for different age divisions, such as the coach-pitch rules for younger age groups and the requirement for multiple pitchers in some divisions.

Key Pitching Rules

  • Pitch Count & Rest:

Pitchers are limited by a maximum number of pitches per day and are then required to have a certain number of rest days before pitching again.
    • Example: An 11-12 year old pitcher can throw 85 pitches, while a 9-10 year old can throw 75.
  • Pitching Motion:

The pitcher must remain in contact with the pitching rubber while making their pitching motion.

  • One Game Suspension:

A pitcher removed from the mound cannot pitch again in the same game.

  • Ineligible Player:

A pitcher found to be in violation of pitching rules is considered an ineligible player.

Age-Specific Rules

  • Coach Pitch:

Younger divisions may use a coach-pitcher who must stay in contact with the pitching rubber and must pitch the ball overhand.

  • Minimum Pitchers:

Some divisions require a minimum number of pitchers per game, such as the 13U (PONY 14U) division which requires a minimum of three pitchers.

Other Important Considerations

  • Warm-Up Pitches:

Umpires should allow a pitcher who enters the game "cold" to warm up with at least ten pitches.

  • Mound Visits:

A pitcher must be removed from the mound after a second visit from a coach.

  • League Rules:

Specific pitching rules and guidelines can vary between PONY leagues, so it is important to consult the local league's rules.
